Bogota´s Open Museum manages to produce artwork in 14 Under Bridge Zones in the city

With an investment of 1.085 billion Colombian pesos awarded to 99 artists from the city, the Bogotá's Open Museum project, an alliance between Instituto Distrital de las Artes - Idartes and the Urban Development Institute - IDU, filled 14 under bridge zones - ZBP - in the capital with life and color, converting them into spaces for meeting and enjoyment. Thanks to the implementation of artistic processes, this will improve the safety and cohabitation for those who travel through and live around them.

According to Mauricio Galeano, director of Idartes, “when an artist comes to paint a wall, a facade or an under bridge zone, they transform the space, giving it a new meaning for the city. This enables people to enjoy and connect with Bogotá in a more friendly, more tolerant way.”

For Diego Sisco, an artist who worked at the ZBP in Calle 183 with Autopista Norte, “our focus is to promote transformations and improve the experience for inhabitants and people passing through. Additionally, our projects contribute to the preservation of memories and re-signification.”

The latest zone that was worked on was Calle 68 with Avenida NQS, where 29 artists collaborated and completed their projects in January 2023. In December 2022, Bogotá's Open Museum focused its efforts on improving two ZBPs located at Autopista Norte on Calle 183 and Avenida NQS on Calle 72. Seventy artists participated, receiving incentives for over 700 million COP for its execution. In 2021, the project worked in 11 zones.

This project becomes a positive strategy for Bogotá, encouraging responsible practice of urban art and graffiti. It is developed in a permanent dialogue between the communities and artists based on the territories, where they aim to create a physical, cultural and social transformation.
